چکیده

We evaluate the leading asymptotic contributions to the traces of the quantum baker’s map propagator. Besides the usual Gutzwiller periodic orbit contribution, we identify boundary paths giving rise to anomalous log h̄ terms. Some examples of these anomalous terms are calculated both numerically and analytically. The compatibility of the semiclassical quantization of area-preserving maps with some exact identities which follow from the unitarity of the quantum evolution operator is discussed. The quantum identities involve relations between traces of powers of the evolution operator. For classically integrable maps, the semiclassical approximation is shown to be compatible with the trace identities. Thi...

We present a systematic semiclassical procedure to compute the partition function for scalar field theories at finite temperature. The central objects in our scheme are the solutions of the classical equations of motion in imaginary time, with spatially independent boundary conditions. Field fluctuations – both field deviations around these classical solutions, and fluctuations of the boundary ...

Different Traces of Quantum Systems Having the Same Classical Limit

Many quantum systems may have the same classical limit. We argue that in the classical limit their traces do not necessarily converge one to another. The trace formula allows to express quantum traces by means of classical quantities as sums over periodic orbits of the classical system. To explain the lack of convergence of the traces we need the quantum corrections to the classical actions of ...

The problem of meson bound states with N f massive fermions in two dimensional quantum electrodynamics is discussed. We speculate about the spectrum of the lightest particles by means of the effective semiclassical description. In particular, the systems of fundamental fermions with SU (2) and SU (3) flavour symmetries broken by massive terms are investigated.
